Top Self-Custody Wallets Compared

With so many self-custody wallets available, we spent the last two weeks testing the leading ones, from MetaMask and Trust Wallet to Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow Wallet, and more. Our goal was to understand their key features, user experience, and business models. After testing, we compiled our findings into a comprehensive spreadsheet and took over 200 screenshots.

Why are we building Doppio Wallet?

After comparing the leading self-custody wallets, we realized they aren't yet optimized for mainstream adoption. Our journey with self-custody began with our first Bitcoin app in 2014. Since then, we've searched for a self-custody wallet that we could confidently recommend to friends and family, and we're disappointed by the lack of real-world readiness.

The main issues we encountered included the reliance on seed phrases, overwhelming choices of tokens, and complex interfaces that don't align with what the average person needs.

How Doppio Wallet is Different

• Remove stress from using crypto: Unlike most wallets that rely on writing down seed phrases or doing a single seed phrase back up, we're designing Doppio Wallet to eliminate this single point of failure with easy backup and recovery.
• Simplify user experience: The current crypto ecosystem is overwhelming with its multitude of chains and assets. We're focused on keeping things simple and purposeful.
• Make crypto useful for everyday needs: Doppio Wallet will offer practical features like sending funds to an email address, labeling transactions, and generating statements—features familiar to anyone who has used online banking.
